Northern noise hounds JACKALS have unveiled their latest single 'Woodcutter's Lies'. Opening with an infectious riff and colossal drum fill, 'Woodcutter’s Lies' is loosely autobiographical of vocalist Thé’s experience of sexual assault, cutting you open with its unflinching honesty and muscular musicality.
An exciting new voice on the UK heavy music scene, JACKALS' blend of styles is a calling to challenge everything you think is bland and stale in the music industry today. Undulating with groove, shifting from cacophony to euphony, JACKALS collapses Nu Metal into the atonality of Hardcore, fusing it with the vulnerable melodies of the East to form something truly anomalous.
"The central metaphor of Woodcutter’s Lies opens up the discussion of testimony, of how intimate crimes are often dismissed due to lack of external evidence. Woodcutter’s Lies highlights the hypocrisy of a testimony based judiciary system within a patriarchal society. The ebbing and flowing of rage and lament within the melody follows the grief and trauma experienced by survivors; an oscillating journey often punctuated by cynicism and mistrust - usually from the very systems designed to bring the survivor 'justice'." - JACKALS
Not content to play it safe, JACKALS are unafraid to wrap their music in the themes that matter most to them. Their songs explore themes such as trauma, gender expectations, and the nuances of life and love during late stage capitalism, highlighting the hypocrisy of a patriarchal society of cynicism and mistrust.
A band firmly on the front foot, JACKALS will present their blistering live set with a string shows throughout September. Full details below:
